Herrin City Library
The Herrin City Library's collection
can be viewed at home on-line at http://search.herrin.lib.il.us
. This will allow you to access the holdings of the Herrin City Library
and 70 other libraries in Southern Illinois. The on-line catalog is
called SILNET, which stands for Southern Illinois Libraries Network.
In order to place requests for titles on-line,
you will need your Library Card barcode number. To view your account to
see when titles are due or
to renew items out, you will need to have a PIN (Personal
Identification Number), which must
be obtained in person at the library. You can renew items out once
either over the telephone or on-line. Any further renewals will have to
be done in-person at the library.
Books are normally loaned out for a two week period
(14 days). Audio books (cassette tape or CD) are loaned out for two
weeks (14 days) also. Magazines, newspapers, and videos (VHS or DVD)
are loaned out for one week (seven days). All items, whether or not
they belong to the Herrin City Library, are loaned out according to the
lending rules of the Herrin City Library. When titles are returned by
their Due Date, there is no charge for borrowing them. When returned
after the Due Date, overdue late fees will be charged. Late fees are
ten (10) cents per day late. There is a "Grace Period" for the first
two (2) days late and no fines are charged. On the third day overdue,
30 cents will be charged and 10 cents per day thereafter for each item
overdue. Any overdue titles that belong to another library will be
charged the same fees as materials belonging to the Herrin City
Library. In other words, ten cents per day late. Other libraries charge
different rates for overdue titles and it may be necessary to adjust
the computer record to reflect the rates of the Herrin City Library.
